I am going to share something in this blog. I have a new machine. I am in love. It is a Toro Gas Powered Fertilizer Spreader. I have a fertilizer program that I offer my customers and I have been spreading it by hand for years. No more!

A couple of weeks ago, I had a client who needed more than two acres treated with fertilizer. For the first time ever, I did it in under 30 minutes. And my back wasn’t hurting. Even better.

Yeah, there is that saying about boys and their toys, but sometimes those toys actually make business more efficient. You see, this machine allows me to evenly spread liquid, powder, and granule forms. And I can easily manage the flow while driving with what they call Lean in Steering.

Fertilizers must be chosen to enhance each specific plant’s growth. There are two different types of fertilizer, organic and inorganic. Organic fertilizers are made from manure, compost, and other natural materials. “Dead” soil can be brought back to life with an infusion of organic material. And organic fertilizers work over time. It is great for gardens.

Chemicals make up inorganic fertilizers. This is more like eating a donut or drinking coffee, but healthier for your plants. It gives them a quick boost over a short time. They can be made from nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium or a blend of these. Minnesota has highly regulated the use of phosphorous fertilizers, so they are not used here.

Knowing what and when to put fertilizer on your yard takes knowledge. For example, nitrogen gives older plants a lift to keep them growing. Root systems are strengthened by phosphorus. Potassium helps to slow disease.

My fertilizer spreader and I can do a lot for your yard and/or garden. Healthy lawns and gardens take a good fertilizer plan over time.

When you place fertilizer is just as important as what fertilizer you use. And all fertilizers need water to complete absorption, some break down quickly, and some over time.

It is a lot to think about. But I can do it for you, then you can spend your time doing things you want to do instead of fertilizing your yard.
