One of the wonderful things about Apple® products is that they continue to be reliable devices even after new models are introduced. Many previous generations of MacBook® laptops, for instance, are still bought and sold because they provide consistent performance for a wide range of users. If you’re in the market for a used Mac®, here are a few laptops you can find at affordable prices.

12-Inch MacBook

First introduced in 2015, this third-generation MacBook is 13.1 millimeters thick and only two pounds, making it Apple’s thinnest and lightest laptop yet. It’s powered with a Kaby Lake® processor that was updated with an Intel® HD Graphics 615 in 2017 to improve its processing speeds and provide faster graphics performance. The models released this year, before Apple stopped selling this generation, also came with faster SSDs and support for up to 16 GB of RAM.

This ultra-portable machine features a 12-inch Retina® display, and the “butterfly mechanism” on the keyboard makes the keys 40% thinner than traditional models. Terraced battery technology and a fanless design also contribute to the lightweight laptop.

2018 13-Inch MacBook Pro® With Touch Bar®

used Mac

This versatile model is great for those who are regularly on the go with a need for elite processing power in a used Mac. The Touch Bar feature also makes it ideal for individuals who use creative programs like Photoshop® or Final Cut Pro X® for light-to-moderate video and photo editing.

While not one of the lightest or thinnest designs, this particular generation isn’t too hefty at only 3.02 pounds and .59-inches thick. The 720-pixel camera is serviceable for video calling purposes. The Retina display will blow you away with its 2,560-by-1,600-pixel design that creates a crisp viewing screen from any angle. Plus, the addition of Touch Tone® technology means the screen will automatically adjust the white balance based on the surrounding space to create a warmer or brighter image as needed.

2017 13-Inch MacBook Air®

Although slightly thicker and heavier than the newest generation of Air models, it’s still a solid-performing used MacBook. The long battery life, Intel Core i5® CPU, and 8 GB of RAM allow this laptop to handle up to 12 hours of heavy use, including having multiple tabs and videos open at once, without any hiccups.

This generation still employs a MagSafe® power port and USB 3.0, so there isn’t a need for dongles. While it does have a widescreen display, the 1,440-by-900-pixel screen isn’t the highest quality when compared to 2021 models. However, it does support up to 3,840-by-2,160 resolution at 60 hertz with millions of colors.
