About Torly Kid

Since 2004, Torly Kid has outfitted the closets and playrooms of Tribeca’s tot lot. We are inspired by the great style we see every day on the streets of Tribeca and keep our brightly colored, animal-filled safari-themed store stocked with an ever-changing selection of our favorite pieces from Appaman, Lunchbox, Mish Mish, Misha Lulu, Toobydoo, Tease, and more. A giant giraffe-print dressing tent for tweens doubles as a play tent for toddlers to mill around in while Mom shops.

Carol Adams made Tribeca her home ten years ago, when the shopfront scene consisted of delis and dry cleaners and nary a boutique was in sight. In 2004, as Tribeca was bursting at its seams with new families, she opened Babylicious–clothing, toys and books for the under-7 set. Six years later, Babylicious has grown into its current incarnation, Torly Kid–tot to tween.

As a mother of two daughters who are growing up quickly, Carol has moms in mind with Torly Kid. Looking to continue serving local babies, and to fill the relative void of tween clothing options, Torly Kid keeps the aesthetic decidedly hip but always practical. The store is bright, fun (thanks to Carol’s musician husband, who stocks her iPod playlist) and brimming with everything, including Appaman’s infamous bulldog tees and Susan Lazar’s sumptuous cotton. Carol and her staff have a near photographic memory of every item in the store and are on hand to locate the perfect gift for each client’s specific needs.

When she’s not at the store putting together baby baskets or dressing mannequins for the new season’s window display, Carol and, of course, Tori and Carly can be found crafting at Moomah, eating ice cream in the park, picking up a pizza at Dean’s or biking over to Bouley for a freshly baked pretzel (Carol’s favorite). Don’t look for them above 14th Street though: They seldom venture “upstate.”
