Except for the largest models, they’ll get better gas mileage than a truck. Diesel-powered models are probably not an option, however. Small-sized SUVs get 30 mpg or more on highways. They, along with SUVs in the mid-size range, may be more maneuverable and comfy to drive than a truck. 

Cons

SUVs may have a slightly high tendency to flip over in an accident, leading to higher insurance rates. In comparison with trucks and other vehicles, however, SUVs have few drawbacks. If you don’t need the towing or hauling capacity of a truck, an SUV may be the right choice for you.
