As any loving parent knows, their child’s health and happiness is always a priority. Unfortunately, sometimes even parental caregivers can’t protect their kids from sickness. Every year, nearly 16,000 kids under age 21 are diagnosed with cancer in the United States. Since September marked Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, it’s the perfect time to recognize these brave kids, their familial caregivers, and the communities that support them. Even though September has passed we still would like to show support. Find out how you can help.

What Childhood Cancer Awareness Months Aims to Achieve

caregiverOne aim of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is to spread awareness about the types of cancers that impact kids. Common examples are Leukemia and Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. The other goal is to raise funds for cancer research as well as for familial caregivers supporting a little one with cancer.

How You Can Help

The American Childhood Cancer Organization provides partnership opportunities allowing you to host fundraising and awareness events in your area. Their PJammin® events are one option that is excellent for implementing at businesses or schools. Everybody is required to wear pajamas, making it a unique event that is sure to attract attention. Their website has more details about this and other types of events.

If you don’t have time to organize something yourself, don’t stress. Even a small act can make a difference. You can wear the gold ribbon pin — the symbol of childhood cancer. You never know who might ask about the meaning, giving you the chance to spread the word. ACCO has information kits, which include a pin, for sale. All proceeds go toward supporting resources for kids with cancer and their families.
