Neck pain is a common issue among office workers. Sitting at a desk for most of the day, especially if you’re looking at a computer screen, can be tough on the neck. Chiropractic care will help relieve that pain and keep your spine properly aligned. Read this guide for some supplement care tips to prevent pain while you’re at work.

How Can You Prevent Office-Related Neck Pain?

1. Adjust Your Desk

Most office workers don’t have their desks set up to give their neck the proper support. You want to keep your head balanced over the spine perfectly, with the spine aligned properly. Adjust your chair so your feet are flat on the floor and your knees at a 90-degree angle. The computer monitor should be high enough that the center of the screen is at eye level.

2. Take Breaks

Staying in one position for too long can strain the neck. Take a break at least once every 30 minutes to get up and move around, stretching the joints and getting your blood pumping. Stretch your neck by rolling it to either side and bringing your chin down to your chest.

3. Use a Headset

chiropractorIf you’re often on the phone, you likely spend too much time tilting your head to the side as you cradle the phone against your shoulder. Use a headset or an earpiece to talk while keeping your spine straight and your hands free for anything you need to do while you talk.

4. Stay Hydrated

Hydration keeps the discs between the spine’s vertebrae strong and flexible since they mostly consist of water. Keep a water bottle by your desk and aim to drink and refill throughout the day. Set an alarm for every two hours and plan to refill your bottle when it goes off.

5. Shed Extra Weight

Carrying around a heavy purse, computer bag, or briefcase strains your neck muscles, especially if you wear it over your shoulder. A backpack that distributes the weight evenly is better. Remove any extra weight in your bag, taking only what you absolutely need.
