Coin collecting is a fun hobby for people of all ages. Coins come in many different designs, represent interesting parts of history, and are gorgeous to look at. If you take proper care of them, they will look beautiful for years to come. Below are some pointers for handling your vintage coin collection.

A Guide to Handling Your Coin Collection

1. Store Them Properly

If you want to keep your coin collection in top shape, it’s important to store it correctly. If coins are exposed to air for long periods of time, they can start to rust. Put them in cardboard holders lined with mylar, which are inexpensive and easy to use. If you want added protection for more valuable coins, place them in hard plastic holders. They are durable and reduce the risk of scratches.

2. Put Coins on Soft Surfaces

While it’s ideal to always keep coins in holders, sometimes it’s necessary to take them out. When you are in this situation, always put them on a velvet pad or another soft surface. Placing coins on hard surfaces can scratch them.

3. Be Gentle When Washing Them

4. Take Caution When Handling Them

Whenever you handle one of your coins, be sure to wear cotton or polyethylene gloves. The oils and acids from your hands can transfer to the coins and damage them.

By following these tips, you can keep your coin collection in fantastic shape. If you are considering selling your collection, talk to the professionals at Randy Scholl Stamp Company.
