The iPhone® has become one of the most widely used Apple® devices in the world thanks to its portability and versatility. However, one of the few drawbacks of having an advanced piece of tech in your pocket 24/7 is a potential lack of privacy. Apple stays on the cutting edge in terms of security, but with so much personal information in that one device, you might be worried about it ending up in the wrong hands. If you’re hoping to gain some peace of mind, take the following steps to safeguard your iPhone.

3 Privacy Tips for iPhone Users

1. Configure the Auto-Lock Setting

Every time you pick up your iPhone, you probably have to enter a passcode or use Face ID or your fingerprint to start using your favorite apps. However, once you set your phone down, a certain amount of time goes by before the phone locks the screen.

This would allow someone sitting next to you to pick up and use your phone when you go to grab a coffee or use the restroom. To prevent this, head to Settings > Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock, and set the time to the minimum 30 seconds. You can lock the screen yourself before you step away, but changing this setting provides a backup plan in case you’re distracted.

2. Enable Two-Factor Authentication

For example, you might need to provide both the correct password and a four-digit code texted to your phone number to get into an account. To ensure your privacy, make sure two-factor authentication is turned on for your most important accounts, such as your business email inbox and online banking portal.

3. Set Up Find My iPhone

Should your Apple device ever get swiped, you’ll want to make sure you can either find and retrieve it or shut it down to prevent access to your most personal data. Luckily, the “Find My iPhone” feature built into your iPhone offers both options. Search for this feature on your phone and make sure Activation Lock is turned on so that no one can break into or reset your device without your Apple ID and password.
