Many scrap car parts can be pulled off or crushed and recycled, especially metal elements like the frame. However, there are items without a recycling process in place. As such, it's important to take a slightly different approach with them to keep them out of landfills.

3 Auto Components You Cannot Recycle

1. Windows

Glass is a top recycled material in many homes. However, the glass used to manufacture car windows is laminated to prevent it from shattering and causing injury. The front windshield and back window may also contain wiring for antennas and defrost with additional sheeting present for tinted treatments.

These elements are so intertwined with the glass that it's virtually impossible to separate them fully so that the base material can be recycled. However, if they're undamaged, they can be pulled from a scrap car to replace a broken window on a working vehicle. This process saves money and reduces a driver's eco-footprint as less material is wasted.

2. Seating

The various seating parts are technically recyclable, including the fabric, foam, and metal framing, but the latter is usually the only component with value. They must also be separated before they can be recycled. In many instances, it's not a cost-effective solution, so the items are thrown in the trash while the rest of the vehicle is pulled for metal recycling or parts.

Auto seating is designed for incredible durability, so it often lasts longer than the car does. They're also fairly easy to swap out, making them an excellent part to salvage and sell on their own.

3. Plastics

Like glass, plastic is easy to recycle. Yet, most of the plastic used for cars is mixed with metals or other durable materials for extra strength and durability. As a result, it's not feasible to extract the additives or separate them for individual element recycling. Fortunately, many plastic elements are clipped on and easy to remove so that they can be stored and sold as replacement parts, including bumpers and headlight covers.
