dolphin excursion is an educational and fun-filled adventure for the entire family. While planning your trip, you should find out what to pack and which items to leave behind. Here, the team at Dolphin Excursions Hawaii, located in Waianae, HI, shares a helpful list of items to make your Hawaii dolphin watching trip more memorable.

Dolphin ExcursionsBring a swimsuit.

Bring a swimsuit or other clothing that you don’t mind getting wet with ocean spray. Snorkeling gear is provided, and wet suits are also available to rent if you prefer that option.

Bring sunscreen.

To protect coral reefs, Hawaii has banned sunscreens that contain oxybenzone and octinoxate. However, you will still need to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays.  You can find natural sunscreen brands without harmful chemicals at your local health food store or purchase some at our check in counter. Additionally, bring a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and a long sleeved shirt/hoodie for more protection.

Bring medication for seasickness.

If you or someone in your family or group is prone to motion sickness, bring medication to help ease the symptoms. Some people have also reported that elastic acupressure bands or ginger candies work to reduce nausea. Pack any medication that will make the experience more comfortable for you.

Bring a waterproof/water-resistant camera.

There will be plenty of opportunities to take photos on your snorkel excursion but even with waterproof phone cases, accidents can happen. So keep in mind that you assume the risk if you bring any electronics on the trip. If you’d rather put down the camera and just enjoy the moment, each tour has a professional photographer on board; if you would like to purchase the photo package just let them know.

DON’T bring valuables.

Avoid bringing unnecessary valuables such as jewelry on the trip. If your jewelry gets lost in the water, it may be impossible to find. Wallets, purses, and backpacks can be placed in a dry storage box on board, but try not to over pack with irreplaceable items. Focus on the dolphin tour and just bring the recommended essentials, so your experience will be rewarding and memorable.
