Clicking noises from a gas stove are normal. It is the sound the electric igniter makes when lighting the burner. You shouldn't hear the sound once the flame is lit. If the clicking continues, or you hear the noise, but the fire doesn't burn, you might need help with a stove repair

What Is Making the Noise?

A burner cap may be off-center, blocking the igniter from the burner and making it impossible for the flame to ignite. Similarly, burner ports could be clogged, causing the igniter to click as it struggles to break through the debris to light the flame.

If your igniter is weak or sparks only intermittently, that could indicate that the spark module is defective. A weak igniter or intermittent igniter spark suggests the need for a new spark module, and when a few burners spark while others don't, the spark ignition switch may be bad.

Faulty spark electrodes may also be the problem behind the clicking sound emanating from your stove. That repair often requires rewiring that should be handled by a professional skilled in stove repair.

How Can You Address the Problem?

If you suspect the problem is coming from the igniter, you can remove the cap, center it on the base, and check the caps for the markings indicating left and right to ensure they are placed correctly on the cooktop's burners. If igniters continue to tick but fail to ignite a flame, ensure the gas supply is on. When ignition problems result from clogs, you'll need a technician to remove the debris to make the stove repairs.

Problems with the spark module will take a little more work to address. Wires in the old module will need to be moved and placed in the same sockets in the new module before putting the box back into position and closing the panel. Replacing a faulty spark ignition switch requires a similar process.

The stove repair will require the technician to remove the cooktop and unplug the four wires to the spark switch power supply. After taking all the controls off the burner valves, they can install the new assembly by placing new switches on the valves and connecting them to the switch power supply wires.
