Whether you work in the plumbing, automotive, or agricultural industries, there are plenty of needs that can only be fulfilled with hydraulic hoses. These versatile, powerful parts require minimal maintenance, but they still need to be cleaned regularly to provide optimal performance. Use the following guide to keep this equipment in pristine condition.

3 Techniques for Cleaning Hydraulic Hose Assembly

1. Fluid

One of the easiest ways to clean hydraulic hoses is to flush them with water and specially formulated cleaning solution. When strong pressure is used—similar to power washers or plumbing jets—the fluid will blast away buildup and blockages while sanitizing the inner walls of the hose. The inside of the assembly will need to thoroughly air-dry before it can be put back to use.

2. Air

Hydraulic HoseIn some cases, air alone will suffice. This method is most effective on shorter hoses, as longer models will start to slow down the air with friction. The air supply should be filtered of contaminants like lint or pollen. It should also be humidity-regulated, so moisture isn’t blown into the hydraulic hoses.

3. Projectiles

For more stubborn clogs or residue, you may need to fire foam cylinders through the tubing. These should be slightly larger in diameter than the hoses, so they’re compressed and forced to scrape along the inner walls of the tubing. When pushed through with clean gas, the projectiles will remove dirt and other contaminants lingering inside the equipment.
