1. Place the Grill in a Safe Location

2. Keep a Fire Extinguisher Accessible

Consider a fire extinguisher a staple of your grilling equipment, as ordinary and essential as spatulas, tongs, brushes, and meat thermometers. Store it within easy reach of the grill. If you don't have a traditional extinguisher, get in the habit of bringing a bowl of baking soda or sand to the grill each time you cook.

Next, turn on the tank and apply the solution to the gas valve, hose, and regulator using a sponge. If the solution bubbles up, the tank has a leak and should be shut off immediately.
