You rely on your iPhone® for work, play, and staying in touch with friends every day. Unfortunately, a sluggish performance can be a constant setback and make it difficult for you to text friends or search the web. While some issues you can fix yourself, others will require an iPhone repair professional. Here are a few common reasons an iPhone is running slowly and what you should do about it.

Why Is Your iPhone Running Slowly?

1. Low Storage

Your iPhone’s computing system requires a certain amount of memory to operate. When you have too many photos, videos, apps, and docs, there won’t be enough space for these integral processes, and the device will slow down. To see what is taking up the most space, go to "Settings" and then "Device Storage." You can then migrate media to the iCloud Drive® to free up space. Your iPhone might also recommend old apps and unused content to delete; however, you should make sure you know what you're deleting before going through with it.

2. Outdated Software

Every iOS® software update is designed to improve iPhone performance. If you don’t update, you aren’t taking advantage of the latest features, and app upgrades may not be supported, resulting in slow performance. To see if you have the most up-to-date software, go to "Settings," "General," and "Software Updates." There, your device will say if you have the latest version. If not, you can download it and select "Automatic Updates," so you don’t have to worry about missing future releases.

3. Internal Damage

Water, heat, cold, or an electrostatic shock are just a few ways to damage the sensitive internal parts in your iPhone. If you notice it’s working slowly after leaving it in a hot car all day or spilling a drink on it, turn it off. Continuing to use the device could lead to further complications.  Instead, you should take it to an iPhone repair professional. They can safely open the device, clean the parts, and replace anything that’s damaged.
