The pattern of curly hair often leaves it drier than straight locks. That’s because the natural oils from the scalp, also known as sebum, can’t slide down the bends and creases of the shaft as easily. If you have a curly hairstyle, here are a few products that may help you moisturize your mane to combat frizz and dehydration.

3 Oils People With Curly Hairstyles Like to Use

1. Moringa Oil

This oil is extracted from the seeds of the moringa oleifera tree. The oleic acid and behenic acid in it keep your locks smooth and silky, while vitamins B and C promote new growth.

To add volume and keep frizz at bay, massage a dime-sized dollop into the scalp, scrunching the hair as you work down to the ends.

2. Jojoba Oil

New-York-New-York-curly-hairstylesExtracted from the seeds of the jojoba plant, this oil has a wax-like consistency. It is used as a moisturizer to protect hair follicles from split ends. Packed with nutrients, it contains vitamins B, C, and E, as well as copper and zinc to strengthen hair and combat breakage and dryness.

As jojoba oil is thick, heat it in a pot on the stove or a bowl in the microwave. Massage a few drops into the scalp, working down to the ends. After 20 minutes, shampoo, condition, and rinse out the oil.

3. Coconut Oil

The vitamin E in coconut oil adds moisture to the scalp and hair follicles. Often used as a deep conditioner, this will keep your hair shiny and nourished.

Warm the oil and massage it into the scalp and strands before going to bed. Wear a shower cap to let it sit and wash it off in the morning. The coating will keep flyaways at bay and prevent your hair from becoming frizzy in humid conditions.
