A manicure adds the finishing touch to any outfit and you naturally want it to last as long as possible. There are many ways to do this and enjoy extra-beautiful nails for many weeks. Below are a few ideas to get you started.

How Can You Make Your Manicure Last As Long As Possible

1. Don’t Bite Your Nails

Biting your nails is as bad for your teeth as it is for your polish. Be mindful of this habit, if applicable, to keep your nails intact. If you are a chronic nail-biter, practice mindfulness tactics such as deep breathing techniques and various healthy distractions like watching funny videos online or talking to friends. Other techniques include taking a brisk walk or reading a book.

2. Reapply the Top Coat

If the salon gave you a gel manicure, you do not have to worry about reapplying a top coat to keep your nails in good condition. However, if you requested a traditional manicure, you’ll want to apply a quality top coat a few days after your salon session. Look for one with built-in chip resistance and reapply it every two to three days.

3. Avoid Hot Showers & Hot Tubs

Hot water causes your nails to expand and distort the polish you’re wearing. Keep your hands away from hot water as much as you can, which includes avoiding hot baths and showers, hot tubs, and hot water for dishwashing. If you do not have a dishwasher, wear rubber gloves to protect your nails during washing activities. In terms of showering, stick to lukewarm water and  try to keep your shower at 5 minutes.

4. Wear Gloves While Cleaning

Gloves should be worn not only when you wash dishes, but when you engage in any cleaning activities using harsh chemicals. Such chemicals damage nail polish, often causing it to lift, crack, and chip. Durable rubber gloves or other thick gloves are ideal.
