One of the most frustrating scenarios to deal with during a snorkeling lesson or excursion is a fogging dive mask. It prevents you from being able to fully experience the beautiful ocean life beneath you. Fortunately, there are a number of ways to prevent your snorkeling mask from fogging up before and while you’re at sea.

How to Avoid a Fogged Snorkeling Mask

1. Clean your Mask

Before you head out for your snorkeling lesson or excursion, use a mask cleaner, from your local dive shop, to prepare your mask and eliminate any leftover residue from the manufacturing process. Squeeze a quarter size amount onto the mask and scrub the lenses and silicone skirt of the mask. Run the mask under hot water to remove the cleaner. Use this trick before each excursion.

2. Use Anti-fog Solutions

Put a small amount on the lenses of your mask and rub it around to coat the lens a few minutes ahead of your excursion. Briefly rinse the mask by dunking it in the water before putting it on.

3. Spit in the Mask

If the mask fogs up while you’re already out snorkeling, your saliva can help resolve the issue in the short run. Take it off, spit in the mask and quickly rub it around the lens.  Dunk the mask in the water before putting it back on. Remember to give your mask another quick cleaning before your next snorkel adventure
