Similar to many other insects, carpenter bees are attracted to nectar and pollen. It’s not uncommon to see them hovering above flowerbeds. Carpenter bees nest in wood and may establish nests on the sides of your home or inside it. Although they are rarely aggressive, they can cause structural damage. To determine whether bee removal is necessary, below are signs that point to an infestation.

3 Telltale Signs of a Carpenter Bee Infestation

1. Odd Noises

Carpenter bees are not quiet. They hum and buzz when burrowing through wood. You may hear them chewing as they make their way through hard surfaces and see them coming and going. If you hear them only when indoors, close off the affected room and call for bee removal. A qualified exterminator will remove the bees and their nest.

2. Holes in Untreated Wood

3. Sawdust Piles

Unless you’re on a ladder, you may not see the holes carpenter bees create in the nooks and crannies under your eaves. But they leave sawdust behind. Look for piles of sawdust near wood frames, jambs, and eaves or a dusting of sawdust on these surfaces. If you spot sawdust, a nest of carpenter bees may be nearby.

Although carpenter bees don’t tend to sting, they can become aggressive if their nests are disturbed.
