Folks everyone wants to have a beautiful weed free lawn. Now is the time to prepare your yard to be beautiful and weed free for next year. If you are having problems with lawn stickers or sandburs, you need to apply a preemergent herbicide now(October) to help control them for next summer. This will also help to control winter weeds. Apply as directed on the container. You can buy this at places like Farmers Association on Colonel Glenn, Home Depot, Lowe’s, etc. To help with spring weeds you need to apply another dose the end of February to first of March. Now would also be a good time to apply lime to your yard if it needs it. Take a soil sample from your yard by digging down a few inches into the soil and placing small amount into a bucket. Do this in a number of places across your yard. Once you have finished, mix the samples together good. Place enough of the samples into a pint zip lock bag to fill it then take it to your local County Extension Office. Have them analyze it according to the type of grass you have on your yard. When you get your results back it will tell you how much fertilizer and lime if needed you need to put on your yard for best results. Always remember that you have 3 numbers on fertilizer. The first number is always the nitrogen content. Nitrogen will dissipate in about 30 days whether the plant uses it or not so reapplying nitrogen about every 30 days during the growing season is a good idea. I normally like to apply a good mixed fertilizer every 3 months like 13-13-13 and the other two months just plain nitrogen.

Always remember to water your yard when it is dry and especially if you apply fertilizer. When watering you need to give your yard a good mud soaking. Try to make sure the water you are putting out reaches the moisture that is in the ground already. This is called making the moisture meet. If you know you are going to get a good ran, that would be the best time to fertilize.

Hope this information helps you to have a beautiful lawn.
