Many people, when asked about Physical Therapy, will describe a gym with patients exercising after a sports injury or rehabilitation following surgery, but most people do not realize there is a manual component to Physical Therapy as well.  When individualized, prescribed exercise is an important aspect of Physical Therapy, while hands-on manual therapy has been shown to be a valuable tool in relieving acute and chronic pain. Manual physical therapy utilizes hands, not machines, to mobilize muscle tissue and joints.  There are various techniques that are used, such as myofascial release, joint mobilization, spinal manipulation, craniosacral therapy, lymph drainage, neural mobilization, to name a few.

Manual physical therapy helps to realign postural mechanics and reduce biomechanical dysfunctions for more efficient movement.  Then specialized exercises will be more effective and have longer lasting results.

At Hands-On Health Massage & Physical Therapy, we use multiple manual techniques to help clients regain proper functional movement, as well as individualized exercises to help the client maintain gains from each therapy session.  You should see improvements with each treatment session, and notice significant gains after 3-4 visits, depending on the severity of your issue.  Malia Grimes, PT, MOMT, LMBT has 30+ years of experience with helping people live as pain free as possible, even when chronic pain is an issue.  She is a member of AAOMPT (American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists), which promotes the benefits of manual physical therapy.
