CEO Paul Coley founded Scent Evidence K9 in 2012 to help communities and law enforcement agencies improve their methods of locating missing persons by developing innovative and effective systems of scent discriminate K9 training and scent collection technology. 

Paul is a former FBI Forensic Canine Operations Specialist and has dedicated his entire career to public service in the fields of education, law enforcement, criminal justice, investigations, forensics, and emergency management.

The life-saving Scent Preservation Kit® provides families and caregivers with a way to prepare and protect loved ones before they go missing. The Scent Kit is used to pre-collect a person’s unique scent and store it for up to 10 years. The process only takes a few minutes to complete and allows K9 responders to begin searching for a missing or wandering person immediately with an uncontaminated scent article. Having a Scent Kit prepared in advance increases location success and reduces recovery time. Scent Kits are used by law enforcement K-9 responders throughout the world to locate those with Alzheimer’s Disease or autism who are at high risk of wandering. 

Scent Evidence K9 provides world-class trained scent discriminate and scent detection K-9s, handler training and certification, and Missing Person Response Protocol training for law enforcement agencies and professional SAR Teams across the U.S. and internationally. Scent Evidence K9 also developed “The SEKR” Scent Evidence Collection Vacuum that is utilized by K9 Search teams to collect uncontaminated human scent at the scene for highly successful forensics and search applications. 

Scent Evidence K9 Bloodhound, Stella, won the 2020 AKC ACE Award – Uniformed Services Division for her successes in locating multiple missing persons and suspects for the Tallahassee Police Dept. Special Victims K9 Unit. 

Scent Evidence partnered with Florida lawmaker, Rep. Scott Plakon, to pass the Bringing the Lost Home Project bill in Florida to increase awareness of wandering risks in populations with Alzheimer’s Disease, related dementia, and autism. Bringing The Lost Home Project implements Scent Kit programs to participating counties that allow these populations to pre-collect their scent and store it for use by responders if they go missing. The project also provides advanced scent discriminate K9 training to agency K9 Units to improve and enhance missing person response. 

Scent Evidence K9 has partnered with the Florida Dept. of Elder Affairs, Alzheimer’s Association, Dementia Care and Cure Initiative Task Force, and The Alzheimer’s Project to raise awareness about wandering safety and prevention methods and the missing person reporting guidelines. 

They have also pioneered the integration of drone technology into the K9 Trailing process with the FSU Emergency Management and Homeland Security Department to create greater situational awareness and safer working conditions for handlers and dogs.
