How to Back Up Your iPhone

1. Set Up iCloud

You can set up iCloud from any Apple device. To do it from your iPhone, go into your settings and tap on iCloud. If you are not already logged into iCloud, log in using your Apple ID. Find the backup feature, and slide the function to the “on” position. You will also see an option to “backup now.”

2. Automatic Storage & Backup

Once backup is on, decide which data you want to automatically sync to iCloud. When you are in the settings interface, simply turn backup on or off for individual apps. To backup non-Apple apps, go into the “Manage Storage” settings of iCloud, select a device, and turn on backup for each app.

3. Managing Backups

Since Apple only gives you 5 GB of free storage on iCloud, manage your backups carefully or you will quickly run out of space. We advise that you save only one or two of your most recent backups, and delete those that are outdated. To remove a backup from your iPhone, go into “Manage Storage,” select a device, select a backup, and tap “delete backup.” Save at least one recent backup just in case! You can also manage your data settings from iTunes®, which is easier to use on the larger screen of your MacBook® and has more customizable settings.
