How Long Before an Event Should You Get a Spray Tan?
A spray tan can give your skin a warm glow that will look amazing in your wedding or vacation photos. But how long in advance should you go to the salon? The guide below offers advice on timing to make the most out of the treatment.
What Is the Ideal Timeframe for a Spray Tan?
A spray tan can last anywhere from seven to nine days, sometimes longer. Keep in mind that after every shower you take, the tan will fade. Because of this, don’t schedule your appointment too far in advance. Typically, it’s best to book two to three days before a big event. This way you have enough time for your first rinse and the tan has the opportunity to fully develop into a golden brown.
Can You Get One the Day Before an Event?
If you find yourself in a pinch before a big event and just need a last-minute dose of color, you can get a spray tan the day before. However, consider some of the ramifications mentioned above. The DHA or dihydroxyacetone in the tanning solution interacts with the amino acids in dead skin cells to produce a brown color change and typically requires at least 8 to 12 hours to fully develop. While another day of waiting would be ideal, if you have at least 12 hours before you need to shower for the event, you can get away with a spray tan the day before.
