Forklifts require specialized training and dedicated care when operating. If you are getting a forklift rental, you can stay safe by understanding how to properly operate it. In addition to following the instructions from the manufacturer, keep these tips in mind to avoid incidents.

How to Operate Your Forklift Rental

1. Look Up

Forklifts are tall and can easily bump into ceilings if you aren’t careful; always look up when you’re driving. Additionally, overhead obstacles such, as a wire or a low door frame, could pose a danger to you and damage your forklift rental. Have at least one spotter who can guide you when you’re moving. They can identify obstacles that may be hard to see from your seat.

2. Evenly Distribute the Load

3. Avoid Distractions

Distracted driving often leads to accidents. Avoid listening to music or having long conversations when operating the machinery. Inform people nearby before you use the forklift so that they will stay clear of the area and not distract you. Also, never use your smartphone and avoid eating while operating the machinery. Finally, never operate the forklift while you are drowsy or intoxicated.
