Toddlers are always learning new things through play and participating in normal daily activities. However, if you want to step up their education even more, there are several games you can play with them that are both fun and full of learning opportunities. The following are perfect options as you prepare your toddler for preschool and life in general.

Fun and Educational Games for Toddlers

1. Simon Says

Simon Says is a classic game where you provide instructions that the players must follow – but only if you first say “Simon Says.” This game basically teaches kids how to listen carefully and follow instructions, but in a fun way, since many of the activities involve silly actions like sticking out your tongue or jumping on one leg.

2. Color Sorting Scavenger Hunt

Label or color a few boxes so you have one for each color. Then go on a scavenger hunt around your home or neighborhood, picking up items of various colors.

You can also make a list of specific items to look for if your child craves more structure. When you get back, sort the items by color, placing them into the labeled boxes. This not only teaches observation skills, but can also help kids categorize items and learn about colors and sizes.

3. Hide and Seek

Hide somewhere in your home and have your toddler count and come find you. They’ll need to use problem solving skills to determine the best places to look, and may even learn how to handle their frustration if they don’t find you right away. For toddlers that need a bit more guidance, hide a stuffed animal instead and then accompany them while they look.
