Is Your iPhone® Slowing Down? You Might Need Your iPhone® Battery Replaced

By now, you’ve probably heard about Apple’s public apology for intentionally slowing down iPhone® devices, just as some conspiracy theorists have been saying for the past few years. Unfortunately, it’s true, and Apple admitted as much. But the company isn’t slowing down iPhone® devices to convince you to upgrade your iPhone® to a newer model. Instead, it’s to prevent unexpected shutdowns on older iPhone® devices operating at peak power. While some people decide to upgrade their iPhone® device to a better or newer model rather than dealing with a slower device, others may not have the luxury to upgrade their iPhone®.

Before you rush to upgrade your iPhone® device or join a class action suit against Apple, here’s what you should do if you notice your iPhone® device is operating slower than usual.

Back up your data

Regardless of what plan to do with your iPhone® device, be sure to back up your data to make sure you don’t lose any of your contacts, photos, videos, or app content. You will want to encrypt your data with a password on an iMac® desktop computer or Windows PC to preserve all the settings and passwords you’ve been using with all of those apps you have installed on your iPhone® device.

Determine the age of your iPhone® device

iPhone® device slowdowns should affect older iPhone® models that have been in use for at least a year. If you just purchased a new iPhone® device and it’s slower than expected, bring it to your local Apple® experts at Experimac Aurora.  Experimac Aurora currently buys, sells, upgrades, and repairs the following iPhone® models: iPhone® X, iPhone® 8 Plus, iPhone® 8, iPhone® 7 Plus, iPhone® 7, iPhone® 6s Plus, iPhone® 6s, iPhone® SE, iPhone® 6.

If you’ve purchased an iPhone® model that’s older than the iPhone® 6, don’t be surprised if it is operating slowly or can’t even run the latest iOS® release update. Experimac Aurora can still help, but you could be looking at repair costs to have the iPhone® device fixed. You’d be better served by purchasing an iPhone® 6s or newer iPhone® model instead. Remember, the entry-level iPhone® SE is an iPhone® 6s in an iPhone® 5s clothing.

Do a fresh install

Once you’ve backed up your all data, if you have time you can try completing a clean iOS® installation to see how your iPhone® device will behave. Do not restore your fresh backup just yet. Instead, let Experimac Aurora complete a diagnostic to see how slow your phone really is or if there might be other issues that need to be addressed in order to properly repair your iPhone® device. If scores are standard, then something in your iOS® backup (the OS and apps you had running on the phone) may have slowed down the device.

Determine the age of your battery

Since there is no way to tell whether the battery inside your iPhone® device is old just by checking the Settings app inside the iPhone®, stop by Experimac Aurora. The iPhone® repair experts at Experimac Aurora can let you know how many recharge cycles your battery went through.

iPhone® Battery Replacement

If your iPhone® device operates slower than it should be, you should consider replacing your iPhone® battery. Experimac Aurora can diagnose and replace the battery quickly, and they offer a warranty. Even if you plan on upgrading to a newer iPhone® model, you should still have the battery of your old iPhone® device repaired or replaced, especially if you want to sell it, trade it, or pass it on to someone in your family.
