An Introduction to the 2020 Silver Eagle for Coin Collectors
By Coins Plus
With a number so futuristic-looking, you might be excited just to get a standard penny for your 2020 collection. However, this year presents coin collectors with a special piece of commemorative currency: the 2020 Silver Eagle. If you have yet to hear about this gleaming specimen, take a look at the following introductory guide.
The Design
On the front of this silver coin, you will see a full-length depiction of Lady Liberty in motion. The U.S. Flag is wrapped around her left arm like a shawl and ripples in the wind to her right. As she walks toward the sun, her right arm is outstretched in anticipation, and her left arm holds laurel and oak branches—other patriotic symbols that represent the land.
On the reverse side, you will see the familiar U.S. seal: an eagle partly covered by a shield, holding olive branches and arrows with its feet. There are also 13 stars in a billiard-like triangle above the bird’s head, to represent the colonies. Since the coin was produced at the West Point Mint, this side features a “W” mintmark.
The Value
The 2020 Silver Eagle may represent a dollar, but its .999 fine silver composition makes it much more valuable. This commemorative coin weighs one troy ounce and is sold for $64.50, which will make it a reasonable addition to your modern collection.
Where to Buy
For a brand-new version of this year’s Silver Eagle coin, you will need to purchase the collectible straight from the U.S. Mint. You can do this over the phone or online. As the year goes on and copies are sold, you might be able to find the 2020 Silver Eagle at a coin dealer near you.
