A storm door protects your entrance from rain, snow, and ice. It also locks to provide an extra layer of security and improves ventilation in the spring and summer when you switch its glass insert for a screen. If you need a storm door for the first time or simply want to know more about the types available, here's a closer look at the three standard view types.

3 Types of Storm Doors

1. High View

A glass or screen insert is installed on the top third of these storm options. The bottom section features thick aluminum that increases the model’s security. If your yard is fenced and you own a dog, consider requesting a pet door insert so your pup can come and go easily. These traditional storm models also stand up to heavy foot traffic, making them ideal for entrances that see significant action.

You might also want to use this model for an entrance that doesn't feature an overhang and is therefore more susceptible to the elements. The combination of quality glass and aluminum helps the entrance withstand extreme weather.

2. Mid-View

An option with two panels for glass or screen materials, the mid-view storm door includes a durable aluminum panel at the bottom. Two panels allow more sun into your home compared to high-view models—as well as seasonal breezes when the screens are installed.

Since the bottom panel features thick aluminum, this option holds up to frequent foot traffic. The mid-view model is also ideal if you have cats and dogs who enjoy putting their front paws on the glass to see what’s happening outside.

3. Full View

The glass or screen insert makes up most of the full-view model. It shows off your entrance door, provides a complete look into your entryway and the outdoors, and offers the most ventilation during warmer months.

Full-view options provide security, too, since the inserts are typically made with thick, shatter-proof glass that also stands up to the elements. If you have an eye-catching entry door, this option is ideal, and your pets will thank you for how easy it is to keep an eye on the outdoors.
