This month, the Bronx will be welcoming the Mall at Bay Plaza with open arms! As the first enclosed fashion mall in the NYC region in nearly 40 years, the excitement has reached a fever pitch among shoppers in and around the metropolitan area.

One of the most welcomed additions to the Mall at Bay Plaza happens to be the leading retailer of athletic gear on the globe: Foot Locker. Operating almost 4,000 stores in 17 countries, the brand is adding the Mall at Bay Plaza to its constantly growing list.

Founded way back in 1879 by F.W. Woolworth, the name eventually changed from F.W. Woolworth Company to Foot Locker Inc. The Foot Locker chain includes Kids’ Foot Locker, Lady Foot Locker, Champs Sports, and more. One unique aspect of the Foot Locker brand is their use of referee uniforms for all the employees. They are also famous for their philanthropic efforts.

This year, Foot Locker offered a Scholar Athletes program to reward students who excelled in a trifecta of areas: school, sports and community. Rather than making the award just about athletics, Foot Locker sought out well-rounded students who were shaping up to be powerful figures in their communities. Twenty winners were chosen to receive a $20,000 scholarship that went towards their college tuition.
