A controversy that has plagued the tech world for years is the battle between Mac and Windows. Windows PC’s traditionally were considered more business focused and Mac’s were considered more creative oriented and more fun for personal use.  Over time, Mac’s have become more business focused while maintaining their creative roots.

Ease of Use

Change is always difficult and can be very intimidating.  However, the Apple Operating System (OS) is very intuitive and easy to learn.  When you walk into an Apple Store or anywhere that sells Apple computers, you can get some hands on time with the devices and try out the OS. Now at first glance, it may be very confusing if you have been a long time Windows user.. The best advice is to go in with an open mind and be willing to change. If you are a person that struggles with change, there are many option available to you such as classes that can teach you how to work the device or online tools on YouTube to help you with with the new computer.  At Experimac Cleveland East, we provide classes, as well as, personalized instruction for our customers.

Integration

One of the key selling points for Apple computers is that Apple designs the hardware and software to work together from the outset. When you look at a Mac, you see that the hardware works very well with the Operating System (OS) as designed. Apple also keeps their newest software supported on many devices for years after the device was released. Apple clearly tells you what specs are needed to run the newest operating system. The integration between hardware and software is seamless and works very well together.  In addition, you can sync your information across your iPhone, iPad and computer effortlessly because they are all part of the Apple ecosystem.

Upgradeability

Apple provides annual software updates to their OS’s to bring new life to your Mac for years to come.  Some of these releases provide new features and functionality and some are designed to improve speed and efficiency.  These updates to the Apple’s OS are free from the Mac App Store, whereas you need to pay to upgrade your Windows OS.

Dual Functionality

If you want to buy a Mac but still need to run Windows you can.  Each Mac has a feature built in to the OS called “BootCamp.” Using “Boot Camp Assistant”, you can install Windows, Chrome OS, Linux or even an older version of Mac and partition your Hard Drive or SSD to give a specific amount of the OS to the native Mac OS and then an amount to the newly partitioned OS. The only requirement is to buy the license key from Microsoft or the appropriate vendor. This gives a Mac owner great flexibility.  Also, an additional software called “VMWare Fusion” or “Parallels Desktop for Mac” allows you to run those operating systems at the same time as MacOS without the need to partition the drive.
