When you’ve had your iPhone® for several years, it’s normal to find that it runs slower than it did when it was first purchased. Before you run to the store for a replacement, it’s possible to speed up an older iPhone and improve performance. Here are a few tips to resolve issues with a sluggish Apple® device

How to Improve Your iPhone Device’s Performance

1. Clear Your Browsing History

apple devicesThe web browser you use stores the cached pages and cookies from your browsing history. While this allows you to pull up previous webpages faster, it also uses extensive data, which can slow your phone down. On a routine basis, clear the data from your history by pulling up ”Settings” on your phone, selecting the browser you wish to clear, and clicking “Clear History and Website Data.”

2. Delete Unused Apps

Third-party applications, such as alternative browsers and map apps, use up more storage on Apple devices. Delete applications that you don’t need or haven’t used in a long time by going to “Settings,” “General,” “Storage,” and finding the app you wish to delete; tap “Delete” to confirm.

3. Full Reset

If you exhausted other steps and are considering replacing your phone, try resetting as a last resort. Back up your phone on the iCloud® or iTunes® to save all of your data, and then do a full reset by going to “Settings,” “General,” “Reset,” and “Erase All Content and Settings.” This will restore your device to the default factory settings. With wear and tear, your phone won’t be up to its original speed, but it will be the closest you can get to a blank slate.
