How to Prepare Your Used iPhone® for Selling
With the recent launching of the newest iPhone® lineup, a lot of people are excited to get their hands on the latest offerings from Apple®. While new models could cost a thousand dollars or more, depending on the features, you can soften the blow by selling or trading in your used iPhone for a good price. Here’s what you need to do with the unit before letting go of it.
5 Tips for Preparing Your Used iPhone for Selling
1. Back Up
Before wiping data off of your old iPhone, back everything up first. Connect it to your computer using a USB cable, and launch the latest version of iTunes® for syncing. Select your iPhone and click on “Back Up” to start the process. If you prefer to store your data on your cloud account, go to your phone’s settings and tap “Back up now” on iCloud®; make sure you have enough available space for photos, apps, and other files.
2. Sign Out
After backing up, log out of your iCloud to ensure no one can access your account. For iPhone devices running on iOS 10.3 and above, go to Settings, select your account, and tap “Sign Out.” While you’re at it, click on “Find My iPhone” and toggle it off to deactivate, so the new owner won’t have difficulties with activation. If your iPhone is on iOS 10.2 or earlier, you have to sign out from iCloud, iTunes, and the App Store®.
3. Unpair
If your used iPhone is paired with Bluetooth devices, such as earphones, speakers, and smartwatches, unpair these first before selling or trading. Head to settings, choose “Bluetooth,” and select which gadget to unpair by tapping “Forget this Device.”
4. Erase Everything
When you’re all backed up and signed out, it’s time to do a full wipe of your existing data and stored information. Double-check to see if you’ve missed out on anything. Once you’re ready, go to settings and select “Reset” from the general menu. Tap on “Erase all Content and Settings” and approve it by following the prompts.
5. Remove SIM Card
With your used iPhone now blank, remove your SIM card from it. Find the SIM ejector and insert a pin to pop out the tray before taking the card out and pushing the holder back in. Bear in mind that this chip still contains some of your security data, personal information, and activities, so it’s best to keep it safe.
