4 Types of Auto Leaks

1. Transmission Fluid 

The transmission provides power to the wheels, allowing your vehicle to reach odometer speeds. The system uses a fluid that lubricates internal components, preventing them from grinding together and generating excess heat from friction.

Transmission fluid is also hydraulic and assists with gear shifting. Cracked transmission lines or loose pan seals may cause a reddish-pink fluid to leak beneath the front and center of your vehicle, accompanied by difficulty shifting and slipped gears. A mechanic can replace broken hoses or tighten seals and add more fluid to restore proper operation. 

2. Motor Oil 

Motor oil slides through the engine block to keep mechanical components, such as the crankshaft and pistons, from rubbing together and generating friction and heat. When oil leaks, you may notice gold or brown spots under the car, and your vehicle might overheat and produce burning smells. An auto repair professional can replace worn seals, degraded gaskets, or a cracked oil pan to stop the leak and protect your engine. 

3. Brake Fluid 

This hydraulic fluid assists with transmitting foot pressure on the brake pedal to rotors and calipers for successful deceleration and stopping. When it leaks, a clear or light brown fluid may seep out near the wheels, and the pedal might feel squishy beneath your foot. A mechanic can correct this by tightening loose valves, replacing failed caliper seals, or repairing brake lines.

4. Coolant 

Coolant flows through the engine to absorb excess heat generated by moving parts. Next, it moves into the radiator to cool down before repeating the process. Blown gaskets, damaged hoses, and leaky caps may cause green or blue coolant to drip beneath the engine area. Repair or replace these parts to prevent overheating and breakdowns.
