Flowers are used to mark all kinds of occasions, and funerals are no exception. If a close friend or family member recently lost a loved one, sending a custom arrangement to the funeral home is a beautiful way to honor the deceased. To design the perfect floral tribute, consult the guide below.

Types of Arrangements

Sprays and wreaths are the two most common floral arrangements found in funeral homes. Sprays are broad bouquets that are placed flat on a surface. Single-ended sprays are meant to be viewed from straight on and are usually displayed on a stand. Double-ended sprays can be viewed from both sides and are usually placed on top of the casket. In most cases, immediate family members will order the sprays.

Wreaths are circular garlands that are usually displayed on stands beside the casket. These arrangements symbolize eternal life, which is a beautiful tribute to the deceased.

Flower Meanings

While you can include virtually any type of flower in your arrangement, it's worth considering some of the more popular options and their meanings if you need inspiration.

  • Lilies: White lilies represent the peace that the deceased has finally found. They can also symbolize a return to innocence, which many religions believe happens after death.
  • Roses: No floral arrangement is complete without roses. When it comes to funeral flowers, red roses symbolize love, yellow roses denote friendship, and white roses indicate purity.
  • Carnations: Pink carnations represent love and remembrance. They are the quintessential funeral flower. White carnations, on the other hand, can supplement a lily arrangement because they also stand for purity and innocence.

Delivery & Display

The easiest way to send a floral tribute is through the funeral home. Once you know where the service will be, check the facility's website for a list of local florists. After choosing a flower shop, place the order and then ask them to coordinate with the funeral home to ensure the arrangement will arrive in time for the service. The funeral home will be glad for the advanced notice as well, so they can make room for all the arrangements that will be arriving.
