Enjoy the thrill of stand up paddle boards on beautiful Crystal Lake and Lake Michigan. The Up North Stand Up Paddle Board Classic race takes place on Saturday, July 21, 2018. The 6th Annual Up North Stand Up Paddle Board Classic

Saturday, July 21st, 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.

Bring your stand up paddle boards to enjoy the most breathtaking lakes in Michigan. The day will begin with the Crystal Lake SUP Challenge, consisting of the Elite 6-mile, Recreational 3-mile, and kids’ 1.5-mile courses. Adults, juniors, and children are encouraged to register.  

If you are a beginner or novice and want to participate in the race for fun, the Recreation division is perfect for you. If you want to race and compete at a high-performance level, join the Elite division. Children, ages 12 and under, can enjoy free registration to participate in the kids’ Crystal Lake SUP Challenge course. Also offered is a Junior Recreational race for ages 13-16 on the Crystal Lake SUP Challenge course. 

To end the day the Downwind Duel will take place on Lake Michigan starting at either Point Betsie Lighthouse Beach or Frankfort Beach depending on the wind direction. The race will then finish at the corresponding location to allow the wind to assist in your paddling. This  4.6-mile paddle is an open course and takes place on one of the most scenic areas of Lake Michigan. For both the Crystal Lake SUP Challenge and Downwind Duel, all racers must have a leash and PFD on their board to participate.
