4 Tips for Remembering the Scriptures 

1. Start With Small Passages 

Our minds are capable of memorizing a vast array of facts, figures, and details, but the brain can get easily overwhelmed if too much information is presented at once. Therefore, if you want to memorize scripture, you should start with small passages or simple sentences. Tackle short and meaningful verses before moving on to longer verses with more details. Break small verses down even further by working on one sentence at a time. Slowly work your way up as you become comfortable with the memorization process. 

2. Use Different Encoding Methods 

Encoding refers to the processes we use to recall information. You can encode information in the brain through repetition, writing, visualizing, and other methods. Every mind is different, so find encoding methods that work for your learning style. Try writing scriptures down, speaking them out loud, repeating them in your head, listening to other people recite them, or even pairing the words with a tune for easier recall. 

3. Turn Memorization Into a Game 

Games are great for stimulating the mind and keeping you engaged. Use cards to create a scripture-matching game or invite friends from your Bible study group to memorize with you.
