Pool is a classic table game that has entertained people for centuries. Traditional pool is popular worldwide, but there are some other versions of the game that people enjoy playing, as well. The next time you head to the bar, impress your friends by sharing these different pool game variations.

4 Ways to Play Billiards

1. 8-Ball

8-ball is the most well-known method of playing pool. This classic game is played with fifteen solid or striped balls and a cue ball. The goal is to get seven of your assigned balls in the pockets of the table, followed by the 8-ball.

This game requires a mix of strategic shots and skillful positioning. Beginners and experts alike enjoy 8-ball since it requires strategy, patience, and practice to play the game well.

2. 9-Ball

9-ball is a fast-paced pool game that's popular among professional and skilled bar players. The objective is to pocket the balls in numerical order from 1 to 9.

There are some stipulations, including the fact that each shot must legally hit the lowest-numbered ball first. The player who pockets the 9-ball wins. Since the game is quick and highly strategic, 9-Ball attracts experienced players who want to put themselves to the test with a unique format.

3. Straight Pool

Also known as 14.1 Continuous, Straight Pool is a strategic and highly technical way of playing pool. Players try to score points by pocketing any ball on the table, with no assigned order.

Players have to carefully plan their shots since they have to call the ball they're going to hit as well as the pocket they're aiming for. Straight Pool tests your precision, patience, and ability to think several steps ahead.

4. Cutthroat

This fun variation is a bar favorite since you can play with three or more people. Each player is assigned a set of balls, either stripes, solids, or the 8-ball. The goal is to be the last player with balls remaining on the table.

Players can aim to pocket their assigned balls while strategically blocking their opponents by knocking their balls off the table. If you enjoy some competition every once in awhile, you'll love playing Cutthroat pool with friends.
