We all have the same 24 hours in a day so finding just 30 minutes to keep yourself in shape and healthy is reasonable, right?  To make things easier, LifeSport Athletic Club in Lincolnshire offers an powerful 30 min functional fitness program called TFL30 to maximize your time at the gym and gain the most impact.  One way TFL30 (a 30 min program in the Training For Life functional fitness series) packs in the power is by incorporating daily row machine exercises, which happens to be the #1 rated machine to build muscle and burn fat.  

The TFL program is group functional fitness training with a certified strength and conditioning specialist.   The specialists plan the exercises and observe and correct form to ensure participants get the greatest cardio and strength benefits.  John Mella, LifeSport’s Fitness Director wants exercisers to know how to use the row machine properly due of its frequent use in the TFL program.   Proper technique and timing will insure the best results. 

Read John’s three easy steps for proper rowing technique:

  1. Start with seat position at the front of the machine with your legs bent and holding the handles in your hands.  With a straight back, lean forward.
  2. Next, push back powerfully with your legs then your arms will follow by bringing the bar to your ribs then lean back slightly. Pause briefly in this position.
  3. To finish the stroke, straighten your arms back out, then bend your knees to bring your body back to the starting position. Think legs, arms, arms, legs.

The key is control and power. “If you’re concerned about speed, you probably aren’t using proper form. Trade speed for POWER as this will help prevent premature exhaustion.”, explains Mella.
