How to Prepare an iPad® for a Trade-In
You likely store a lot of private information in your electronic devices, from personal data to bank documents. Before trading in an old, used iPad®, you’ll want to clear all of that personal information out of the device. Here are a few steps to take before trading in a used iPad for a newer version.
3 Steps to Take Before Trading In an iPad
1. Back Up Your Data
An iPad holds precious memories, information, and photos. If you don’t want to lose everything, back up your data. You can easily store your information in the iCloud®. This saves all of your settings, contacts, and other information and makes for an easy, smooth transition to your new device.
2. Erase All of the Data
To ensure the new owner doesn’t get a hold of your information, erase all of the data on the used iPad. You never want to trade in a device that still contains any personal information. To do this, go to “Settings,” “General,” “Reset,” and then “Erase All Content and Settings.” You may need to enter your Apple ID and password first.
3. Double-Check
After completing these steps, the iPad should be free and clear of all traces of your information. To ensure the iPad is ready to be traded in, restart the device. If you’re greeted with the classic “Hello” screen, you’re good to go. If you don’t see the welcome screen, something may not have been erased, so repeat the previous steps.
