Seniors may not be native internet users, but that doesn’t mean they should be left behind. As technology makes life more convenient, they can benefit from using items like smartphones as well. From increasing the size of the font to setting up a medical ID, these phones are highly useful to seniors. Even if it’s dropped, the devices are sturdy, making iPhone® repairs unlikely.

iPhone Features That Benefit Seniors

1. Medical ID

If there’s an emergency, the Medical ID feature will help seniors if they’re unable to communicate with paramedics and loved ones directly. Open the Health App on the iPhone and select Medical ID at the bottom of the screen.

From there, you can add a list of medications, pre-existing conditions, allergies, and reactions. Make sure the ID is visible by enabling Show When Locked so that medical professionals will see it.

2. Reminders

iPhone repairForgetfulness is common among seniors, so many use their iPhones to help them remember.

The Reminders app is simple to use. Once open, each line functions as a new reminder. It can remind the senior to take their medication at set times, remind them of doctor’s appointments, or meetings with friends. There’s no limit to how long the reminder is—from a few words to several lines of text.

3. Increase Text Size

The most common problem seniors experience with smartphones isn’t the need for iPhone repairs, but because the information on the screen isn’t large enough.

iPhones offer two ways to increase the size of the selections. Access Display Zoom through Settings. Then select Display & Brightness. Select Display Zoom and press View. Using the Zoomed function, the senior can try different sizes to accommodate their needs.

You can also increase the font size by returning to the Display & Brightness section in Settings. Select Text Size and use the slider until the senior can read the text comfortably.

4. Emergency SOS

You can program iPhones to act as a medical alert device in case of emergencies. Go to settings and select Emergency SOS. Establish a designated emergency contact—preferably a nearby family member or friend. Enable Auto Call, which will call the local emergency medical service in the area followed by the senior’s emergency contact.

Activate the Emergency SOS by pressing the side button five times. A slide will appear. Once it’s dragged, emergency services and the senior’s emergency contact will be alerted with the senior’s location.
