If you want to increase the privacy, shade, and curb appeal of your property, working with an arborist to plant trees is the perfect solution. While this requires regular tree trimming when the branches grow over the roof of your home, the benefits make these plants worthwhile. To take advantage of them as soon as possible, here are some native Ohio trees that grow quickly.

What Trees Should You Plant for Quick Results?

1. Red Maple

Growing at a rate of 12 to 18 inches annually, red maples can reach impressive sizes, with some older plants reaching 30 to 50 feet in width and 40 to 90 feet in height. While the leaves are a standard green color during summer, they turn into stunning shades of red and orange in the autumn and spring; they also grow tiny red flowers in the latter season. This means that as the tree matures it will offer both ample privacy and gorgeous scenery.

2. Weeping Willow

Famed for their graceful appearance and gentle colors, weeping willows do well in Ohio if the soil has sufficient moisture and nutrients. While they are common around ponds, they can grow elsewhere on your property. An arborist can help you determine if your soil can support one of these beauties. If it can, the tree will grow 3 to 4 feet per year, allowing you to quickly sit under its generous shade and watch the foliage sway.

3. Northern Catalpa

Popular in Ohio, the northern catalpa tree is popular for its delicate, white blossoms and large, dense foliage. It can also withstand dry weather and excess water easily, catering to the varying Ohio seasons. Since it grows an average of 13 to 24 inches per year, it can quickly mature and reach 40 to 60 feet tall at its peak.

4. American Sycamore

With its thick foliage that can spread up to 80 feet wide and 100 feet tall, the American sycamore tree offers copious shade and privacy. It thrives in rich, moist soil with plenty of room for the roots and limbs to stretch. However, consult with an arborist before planting one so that you know if there is enough space. It grows 2 feet per year, so this tree will quickly provide a rest area for warm weather.

5. Sweet Bay Magnolia

Although sweet bay magnolias only reach about 10 to 35 feet in both height and width, they provide breathtaking visuals. These trees sprout white, lemon-scented flowers throughout spring and summer. They need moderate moisture so that the tree can grow anywhere from 13 to 24 inches annually.
