When renovating your business, you must take steps to protect fixtures and equipment from dust, debris, and other risks during the construction process. However, protecting your commercial flooring can be a bit challenging. Here are a few ways you can keep your flooring looking amazing while also improving other aspects of your business.

How to Safeguard Commercial Flooring When Renovating Your Business

1. Choose the Right Material for Your Floor Type

Laying down a tarp or a protective covering will protect your floors during work, but you want to ensure you’re using the right material for the job. While a plastic tarp works well for carpet, it may not be the best option for other flooring systems. With tile, a protection film covers and adheres to the floor without risk of scratching. For hardwood, impact damage is a concern if a tool is dropped, so a thicker, Masonite covering is recommended.

2. Clear a Path

Clearing a path through your business for the construction crew limits potential damage and makes for an easier cleanup process overall. While you should still cover the entire floor, be sure to fortify the pathway against all risks, including scratches, impacts, and stains.

3. Exercise Caution With Rosin Paper

Rosin paper is a type of rugged floor covering commonly used in the construction industry. While undeniably durable, rosin paper has a distinctive red color known to stain under certain conditions. For instance, both moisture and sunlight cause rosin paper to leave stains, which can ruin the look of your floor and call for expensive repairs.
