If you’ve never needed to hire a plastering services company before, you may think there’s only one type of plaster available. The truth is that there are many different types of plastering and many ways to use them. Here are a few of the most popular options to choose for your home.

What Are Some Common Types of Plastering?

1. Stucco Plastering

Decorative plaster is what plastering services refer to as stucco, which can be used on interior and exterior surfaces alike. It’s typically laid in three layers. The first two consist of a mixture of one part cement to three parts sand, with 10% hydrated lime added to improve workability and durability. The final coat, also called white coat, is made up of one part cement to two parts sand in a 4- to 6-millimeter-thick coat, to which colors, decorative finishes, and patterns can be added.

2. Cement Plaster

Cement plaster is usually applied to interior and exterior areas in order to achieve and protect a smooth, consistent surface, and is particularly useful in damp conditions. Made from a 1:3 or 1:4 ratio of Portland cement, fine aggregates, and water, it’s normally applied in a single coat ranging in thickness from six millimeters to as much as 20 millimeters.

3. Lime Plaster

Lime plaster is a porous, breathable material used to control humidity levels in building interiors. It’s made of equal parts hydrated lime and sand mixed with water. Other materials, such as hemp or gugal (Commiphora wightii) can be added to the mixture to increase its insulating and moisture-regulating properties and reduce the risk of surface cracking.
