Whether it's your first or fiftieth time snorkeling, it's important to be prepared for the excursion. While you will be provided with essential gear, like masks, snorkels, fins, and flotation devices, you should bring some other essentials to make your trip safe and fun.

What Should You Bring on a Snorkeling Tour?

1. Reef-Friendly Sunscreen

Sunscreen is necessary to prevent painful burns. Regular sunscreen use can also greatly reduce your skin cancer risk. When selecting a brand for snorkeling, choose one with "reef-safe" on the label. Many types of sunscreen contain oxybenzone and octinoxate, both of which damage coral reefs

Also, be mindful of how much sunscreen you apply. While it should cover your entire body evenly, there's no need to use an excessive amount of sunscreen, as it will only end up washed away.

2. Neoprene Socks

You'll wear fins while snorkeling to help you maneuver with ease in the water. It's recommended to wear a pair of neoprene socks under the fins to protect your feet from blisters and chafing. Wearing dive socks can also enhance the buoyancy of your feet as you swim.

3. Rash Guard

Rash guards are athletic shirts made from materials like nylon and spandex. Wearing one can protect you from UV rays and sharp coral reefs that can potentially cause cuts and scratches. Just put one on over your swimsuit, then take it off after your snorkeling excursion.
