Bedbugs come out at night to feed on the blood of humans and other warm-blooded animals. In the day, they stay close to where their meal source sleeps, typically within 20 feet. That's why you generally find them on or near beds. Here’s a closer look at some of the places these critters like to lay low in the day.

Where Bedbugs Like to Hide

1. Headboards

When inspecting for bedbugs, look in any crevices, gaps, or indentations on the headboard—including in the heads of screws. Check any furniture near your bed, as well, such as a nightstand or dresser. They can find their way into books, drawers, and even your alarm clock.

2. Carpets

Along the baseboard where the carpet meets the wall is another common place to find these bugs, as well as under the edge of the carpeting or area rugs. If you have wood floors, they may also be hiding in thin cracks or small knotholes in the flooring.

Bedbugs3. Mattresses

These critters like to hide in thin, dark crevices. If you suspect you might have them in your home, look along the seams of your mattress. Also, check around the mattress's buttons, tufts, tags, piping, and handles. The bugs often lay low under the plastic corner protectors of box springs or in the joints of bed frames.

4. Laundry

Sometimes bedbugs find their way into your home by hitching a ride on your clothes. If you keep a laundry basket or hamper in your bedroom, they may hang out in your dirty clothes or at the bottom of the basket during the daytime.

5. Walls

Bedbugs also like to hide behind pictures, mirrors, and clocks, as well as behind the edges of wallpaper. In heavy infestations, they also might be where the wall meets the ceiling, in electrical outlets, and behind light switch plates.
