Community festivals are the perfect place to enjoy live music, purchase artisan crafts, appreciate local culture, and compete in contests for prizes. However, since these events are usually held outdoors, make some preparations to stay comfortable and enjoy the experience. Here are some do’s and don’ts of attending outdoor community festivals.

Do:

Have a plan.

Take a look at the festival’s website ahead of time, and make a list of concerts and events you’d like to attend and booths you want to shop at. Additionally, check out a map of the site to help you easily navigate the area, locate restrooms, and determine where to park.

Wear sunscreen.

eventsMany festivals take place during the spring and summer, when the sun’s rays are stronger. Opt for a formula that has an SPF of 30 or higher, and apply it 30 minutes before going outside to give your skin time to absorb the sunscreen. Don’t forget to cover your ears and the back of your neck. Take the bottle with you and reapply every two hours.

Don’t:

Litter.

Community festivals usually feature a wide variety of food and drinks from local vendors. As you sample their fares, be mindful of the trash you accumulate, and make sure that you deposit paper and plastic products into the appropriate garbage and recycling bins.

Forget to hydrate.

Since you’ll be doing plenty of walking and may be out in the sun all day, it’s crucial that you remember to drink enough water. Bring reusable a bottle or canteen that you can refill at public water fountains and hydrating stations. Carry extra cash in case you need to buy bottles of water from vendors.
