For many people, lost house keys are a common occurrence. Depending on the day and where the keys might be, the outcome can range from a slight hiccup to major problems. Thankfully, there are a handful of solutions to help minimize the likelihood of it happening. If you're someone who has trouble keeping track of your keys, try the following tips.

How to Avoid Misplacing House Keys

1. Create a Designated Space

Having a single spot in your home strictly for your keys is the simplest and most cost-effective method. This could be a bowl on top of an end table by the front door or a few hooks on the wall. Whatever you choose, make sure to commit to it. Keep the area clear of clutter and make a note to place your keys in that spot each time you enter.

2. Use an Eye-Catching Keychain

When the keychain itself is bright, bold, and conspicuous overall, you're less likely to lose sight of it. Consider the size as well; with a larger keychain, you'll be able to tell if it's no longer in your bag, jacket pocket, or pants pocket. It could even be something as simple as a neon lanyard with reflective tape.

3. Invest in Key Finder

If you're willing to invest a little bit more money, get a key finder. The most popular ones have Bluetooth® capability and will sync to your smartphone, so you can track the location of your house keys. Some even come with an alarm feature, so you can find them even more quickly. Sometimes they'll work both ways, and you can use them to find your phone as well!
