Wearing a mask can be frustrating if you also need eyeglasses because fog from the moisture in your breath can quickly cover the lenses. This can make navigating a store impossible, as you must regularly remove the glasses to clear the condensation. If you're having trouble seeing with a mask, here are some possible solutions.

How Can You Prevent Mask Fog From Affecting Eyeglasses?

1. Choose the Right Mask

Eyeglasses fog up when warm air escapes through the top of the mask. To prevent this issue, choose a mask that fits tight against your face without being uncomfortable. If you’re still having issues, try a model with an adjustable noseband, which tightens around the bridge of your nose to keep the air inside. Let your glasses sit over the noseband, as this places extra weight on the mask and keeps air from escaping.

2. Wash With Soap & Water

Healthcare workers have been dealing with mask issues much longer than the public, and one of the best tricks they use is to wash eyeglasses with soap and water. Lather the lenses thoroughly and rinse them completely every time you wash your hands, and then shake off excess water. The soap will leave a discreet film over the lenses that prevents condensation from adhering.

3. Try Tape

If you're having trouble keeping air inside the mask after getting a tighter fit, consider taping the top to your nose. Avoid transparent tape because the oils on your nose will prevent it from sticking, as well as duct tape because it is too strong and can pull hairs from your face. Surgical tape is the best option because it will hold for long periods. Place a strip across your nose, and if you’re still having trouble, use longer strips to secure the mask to your cheeks.

4. Use Tissues

Another way to keep air from escaping through the mask is to use a tissue as a buffer. Take a tissue, fold it in half, and place it along the top edge of the inside of your mask. It should fit over the bridge of your nose and around your cheeks. However, be careful when placing it. The tissue shouldn't slip in front of your mouth, as this can make it hard to breathe.
