When water pressure is low, laundry equipment and dishwasher performance will suffer. It will be difficult to rinse off suds while bathing, too. There could be various reasons why the steady stream of water has become a trickle, including the common residential plumbing issues highlighted here.

What Causes Low Water Pressure?

1. Closed Water Meter Valve

If water pressure throughout the house is weak, the water meter shutoff valve might be partially or fully closed. The meter is on the main city supply pipe for your home. A representative from the water company can find the meter, which might be on an exterior wall, in the basement, or underground between the house and the street. Once the meter is located, the technician will adjust the valve handle, so it's parallel with the water pipe. Doing so opens the valve to increase the water pressure.

2. Clogged Pipes

Invasive roots and years of gunk buildup can cause clogs to form in the water pipes buried under your house. The obstructions reduce how much water can flow through the channels. Instead of filtering out of faucets, most of the liquid will accumulate in the pipe. A plumber can use video scoping equipment to locate the blockage and then perform hydro jetting to force it out of the pipe.

3. Pipe Leaks

Ruptured seals, cracks in joints, and invasive roots are a few causes of pipe leaks. When there's a leak, less water will flow through pipes to the intended destination. In addition to weak water flow, you might also notice moisture droplets on exposed water pipes or wet spots on surfaces, indicating a pipe has ruptured underneath. Having leaky pipes replaced will prevent further pressure issues and property damage.
