A business jet's ability to operate depends entirely on the components it's comprised of. As such, you must do your due diligence when sourcing aircraft parts. If you're unsure what that might entail, start with the considerations below.

What to Look for in Aircraft Parts

1. Compatibility

No matter how exceptional certain parts are, they won't be of any use to you if they're not compatible with your aircraft. Before finalizing the transaction, review the serial number of the part and confirm that the make and model will meet your needs. If the new part is considerably nicer than the old part, you'll also want to make sure you'll be able to take advantage of the various modifications by reviewing all manufacturer-approved upgrades.

2. Airworthiness

aircraft parts

Before purchasing used parts, you must confirm their condition. When were they last inspected, and what were the results of those inspections? How were they used in prior aircraft, and why are they for sale now? Finally, how many certifications do they have? The answers to these questions will inform you of each part's airworthiness.

3. Traceability

Unless you're buying new parts directly from the original equipment manufacturer, you'll need to confirm where the components came from. Otherwise, there's no way to verify their airworthiness with certainty. Thankfully, reputable sellers should be able to provide a part's history with detailed documentation. You should also be able to trace products through the Aviation Suppliers Association or one of its partners using serial numbers and other critical details.
